"Awful - dont work here"

General Comments
working at planet fitness was an overwhelming and anxiety-inducing experience. favoritism and retaliation were common—when employees put in their two weeks’ notice, management often found reasons to write them up, resulting in bans from the facility, which happened to two of my former coworkers. upper management treated staff unfairly, and the human resources department was unreliable, with constant turnover every few months. the job description claims you’ll help maintain gym cleanliness, but in reality, that means dealing with tasks like unclogging and cleaning flooded toilets, handling confrontations with upset members over billing issues, and even calling the police to manage situations with individuals abusing the facility. the “deep cleaning” expectations are extreme, as you’re required to clean absolutely everything. inspections happen twice a week, with the regional manager meticulously checking for dust, lifting equipment, and even expecting employees to clean black mold from shower ceilings. i only stayed to finish my degree, but the physical and mental strain took a serious toll on my health, leading to more doctor visits than i’ve ever needed at any other job. i would not recommend working at planet fitness under any circumstances.

"Working At Planet Fitness"

Pros
Pay is fair for the work you have to do - it’s a really laid-back job with awesome coworkers, making it feel less like work and more like hanging out in a fun environment. the responsibilities are minimal, so it’s pretty stress-free. plus, you get perks like a free gym membership and drinks. the hours can be great if you’re an early riser and don’t mind starting your day early.

Cons
there’s not much room for advancement unless you’re aiming for a gm or agm position. raises are minimal, typically around 50 cents after a year. the pay isn’t great, but considering the job doesn’t require a lot of effort, it’s hard to complain too much.

"good for the experience, not the long term"

Pros
a fun, high-energy, and sociable environment with flexible scheduling, making it an enjoyable place to work, especially if you thrive in dynamic settings and enjoy interacting with others.

Cons
there’s limited room for growth since the company is franchise-owned, which often restricts advancement opportunities and career development within the organization.

"ok but not great"

Pros
quiet to work here at night

Cons
they kept us employed during covid, but we weren’t paid, even though we were required to attend zoom meetings. since we were technically still considered employed, we didn’t qualify for any government assistance, despite not receiving a paycheck. it was a frustrating and unfair situation that left many of us struggling without support.

"ok time at planet fitness"

Pros
it’s a fun job, great for gaining experience, especially if it’s your first job. it helps you develop strong customer service skills that can be valuable in future roles.

Cons
upper management is extremely critical of their employees, and growth or improvement feels impossible if they don’t personally like you. i spent nearly six years working there, and despite being the only employee who used a wheelchair, i was able to fully understand all aspects of the gym, from computer systems to light maintenance. however, management rarely acknowledges the hard work and contributions of their employees—you’re often treated as just another body filling a role. opportunities for growth seem to be based more on favoritism than merit, making it difficult to advance unless you’re in their good graces.

General Comments
Disabled employees are able to do just as much as anyone else. Retain good, reliable employees regardless of their physical limitations. The gym's motto is 'judgment-free zone'. It's crucial to start with the way employees are treated.

"Not So Good"

Pros
working the front desk at planet fitness is a relatively easy job. the training for the computer system that manages accounts and payments can be challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. if you enjoy working out or spending time in the gym, you’ll likely find the work environment enjoyable and a good fit for your interests.

Cons
the pay is incredibly low for the work expected. there’s little to no oversight from corporate at the local gym level, which allows small issues—like lack of proper training or vacant management positions—to go unresolved for far too long. the turnover rate is extremely high, and when corporate does step in, they’re often so out of touch with the realities of day-to-day operations that their demands feel disconnected. it usually seems like they’re only making changes because their own higher-ups told them to, not because they genuinely understand or care about the challenges employees face.

General Comments
employees across the board deserve higher pay, especially customer service reps, trainers, and team leads. some of the rules in place for staff are outdated—most customers don’t mind if a front desk employee leans on the counter or if a janitor has an earbud in while working. updating these policies to reflect a more realistic and modern work environment would improve both employee satisfaction and overall efficiency.
